When Leaders Step Up, Amazing Things Happen

‘The success of any human endeavour depends on the quality of leadership at the helm.’

We’ve all experienced great quality service.  Whether it’s a hotel, a restaurant, the guard on a train, a visit to the hospital or a visit to the coffee shop.  You can tell when staff are motivated, happy, passionate and are willing to go that extra mile to make a difference.  Where does that come from?  Sometimes it is exceptional individuals who shine in difficult environments but most of the time it is because the place we visit is well lead.  Staff feel appreciate, safe and they are encouraged to do what they do to the best of their ability.  Great leaders help staff to reach their potential.  The difference between mediocrity and excellence is leadership.  But what make a great leader?  Charisma?  Determination?  Ruthlessness?

Often the best leaders are quiet, humble and self-effacing.  They never hit the headlines.   They are humble and passionate to see others grow and flourish.  They have convictions and clear values and have a keen sense of justice.  Scotland in 2025 has many challenges and these challenges call for more of this kind of leadership.  We are in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis, we have a mental health epidemic, many people feel very lonely and many of our public services are at breaking point.  Charities are closing at an alarming rate, and we have thousands of workers who are off sick with stress.  Many of our services and charities have not quite recovered from COVID.  Staff are less resilient; volunteering has reduced, and funding has become a real challenge.  We are living in a different world and leaders need to tackle a whole range of new issues.

Leadership has never been more challenging: we need to be motivated, inspirational, innovative and resilient.  We need to fight fires but also develop a long-term strategy.  But to do this we need help.  Leaders need support so they can lead teams and organisations that succeed in a challenging environment.  They need this before they burnout and collapse.

That is why we are launching Trail Consultancy.  Over the last 30 years Jonathan and I have worked with charities and churches and seen the leadership challenges that many pastors, leaders, teams and organisations are facing.  We want to offer support and help so that leaders, teams and organisations can thrive and live in their calling.  So much of leadership is about growth, reflection, realistic goals and a healthy work life balance.  We can provide individual or group coaching to help people with a range of issues.

Trail Consultancy has been set up to offer bespoke support to help leaders to navigate the challenges of our post COVID society.  Leadership can be complex and messy but Trail Consultancy can offer a new perspective and support organisations to find their purpose and passion so they can deliver excellence.  We believe that when leaders understand who they are, they can move in their gifting and talents to make the impact that our society so desperately needs.  Leadership is not for the faint hearted but when great leaders step up, amazing things happen.

Why don’t you get in touch for consultation?  We’d love to journey with you in this next season.
